By contributing to the church you can help First UU thrive today and ensure liberal religion in Wichita for decades to come.  You can also designate your giving to a specific fund if you like. First UU pays dues to the national Unitarian Universalist Association and Mid America Region offices. We also pay for newsletter printing and mailing costs, maintaining and updating our website, computers, and software, heating, cooling, repairs and maintenance, landscape development and management, grass mowing and snow removal, paying staff salaries and volunteer expenses, and more.

We pay approximately $85 annually in national and regional dues for each member of First UU. As a member, your financial pledge can cover, at minimum, this cost. If you can afford to pledge more, we will apply it to our other expenses with gratitude and joy. (Our guidelines suggest a goal of 4 percent of income.)

Tax-Smart Giving from Your IRA

Still need to take your required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA? Starting at age 70.5, you can direct a qualified distribution to a public charity like First UU to satisfy your RMD—and this transfer will not increase your taxable income. By minimizing your total taxable income, you might pay less income tax than if you took a distribution first and then sent the same amount to a charity. If you don’t itemize, you can still take advantage of this law. Making a qualified charitable distribution eliminates the need for taking a charitable deduction, so you don’t have to itemize on your tax return to recognize a tax savings.
