Book Clubs
Book discussion groups have been a part of First UU church since the very beginning. The Wichita Eagle reported in December, 1887 that “the Unitarian society has made arrangements to organize a Unity club for the purpose of promoting acquaintance with the best literature.” This was the start of our continuing book discussion groups.
Currently the Eclectic Readers Group meets at the church at noon on the third Friday of the month for a brown bag lunch followed at 12:30 pm by a lively discussion facilitated by a group member.
The Zen Friends Buddhist group meets for meditation every Monday at 6:30 followed by discussion of books drawn from traditional Buddhist teachings as well as other sources.
Other book groups have come and gone throughout our history including one completely online and an occasional group which met – occasionally.
