My brother, Porter Marshall, who is also a member of First UU Church Wichita, introduced me to the Unitarian Universalist Faith Tradition. I visited the First Unitarian Church when we were located on Fairmount Street in the late 1970’s and it soon became my Church home.
I’ve been involved in a variety of Church activities through the years. I’ve served on the Board, was RE Director for several years, chaired the Caring Committee several years. At present, in addition to being a member of the Committee on Ministry, I Co-Chair the Caring Committee, I greet on Sunday mornings and I often help with Kitchen clean-up after First Sunday Lunch.
Most of my work life I was fortunate to work in early childhood education. My experience was both as teacher and later as Education Coordinator for the Wichita Head Start Program. My last position was Child Care Coordinator for the Wichita Early Head Start Program. It was wonderful to be a part of the young children’s excitement and enthusiasm as they were learning those basic skills that are critical for later success.
In the broader community I volunteer for Trust Women, Andover Public Library, and the Wichita Circles Network. I’m also a member of the Sunflower Community Coalition.
For enjoyment, I have lunch with friends and family, take my Granddaughter Olivia to her flute lessons, practice Forrest Yoga, care for my dog Mya, a Puggle, and four cats, and read both fiction and non-fiction, especially memoires.
