Hey, You Kids, Get Off My Lawn

Bob Minor returns with “Hey, You Kids, Get Off My Lawn,” his reflection on the generation gap and what society loses when elders judge younger people based on flawed memories and youth dismiss the experiences older people can offer. Featured musicians are flutists in The Nightingales, an ensemble that included longtime member Betty Hensley, who loved children, nature, and flutes and for whom our children’s garden play space is named. The group began in the mid-1970s when Betty and three other flutists played quartets for a program and had so much fun, they kept playing. Betty remained the undisputed leader until her death in 2018. Current members are Marilyn Hitchcock, Martha Housholder, Meg Beck, Elaine Johnson, Sonya Maxwell, Pam Young, Lucy Henry, and Dana Hotmar.
