Rev. Joe Mohr will present “I’ll Put a Spell on You.” Despite its sunny connotation, the origin of the word “delight” has a sultrier nature. It first appeared in Latin as delicere, to entice, and grew to mean charm, allure, to please. To delight someone was to cast a spell on or entrance them. Much later, the prudes of the 16th century added the “gh” to the French word delit, to associate it with light. Join me on a trip of whimsy as we explore what it means to give oneself over to awe and take delight in our world and others.
