Seeking a change of pace and relief from world events, we’ve decided on something a bit laid back, Lake Wobegon Day by Garrison Keillor, first published in hardcover by Viking in 1985. Like some of Keillor’s other books, an audio version preceded the publication in written form. The stories are from his radio show The Prairie Home Companion. This is one of those books supposedly “everybody” has read, though that is not the case with at least one of the Readers. “The work is a humorous account of life in fictitious Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, a heartland small town. Its early chapters are written in the form and style of a history of the town and later ones chronicle the lives, concerns, and activities of its inhabitants, with intergenerational tensions and relationships forming a major theme.” (Excerpted from Wikipedia)
