“Maus” by Art Spiegelman will be discussed. The graphic novel has been called a memoir, biography, history, fiction, autobiography, or a mix of genres. It depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor, and in 1992 it won the Pulitzer Prize. “Maus” was serialized from 1980 to 1991 and published by Pantheon Books in 1991. It was one of the first graphic novels to receive significant academic attention in the English-speaking world. “Eclectic” indeed reflects our reading choices and “Maus” is our first graphic novel. Join us for a brown bag lunch at 11:30, followed by our usual lively discussion of the book.
