Marcia Ellsworth spent 20 years as a school nurse with the Wichita school district spending time at the elementary and high school levels. While there, she was active in the teacher’s union and advocated for school nurses within the district and national organizations. She has been a member at First UU since 2002. Her childhood was spent as an American Baptist preacher’s kid but later came to believe that there is more than one right religion and way of life. As an adult she lived 9 years in Germany and learned to appreciate the European culture. She is a member of the Committee on Ministry from which she helped develop our Covenant of Healthy Relations. She led Dinners for 8 for three years and helped organize the church’s involvement with the Kansas Food Bank. She was one of the co-leaders of our Ecofest fundraisers. She continues to be deeply involved in the church on fundraising, health, social justice, and environmental issues. Marcia is committed to her partner, Charles Merrifield, with whom she collectively shares from previous marriages 4 daughters and 8 grandchildren. Philosophically, she considers herself to be a secular humanist. In addition to her church activities she likes visiting nursing homes with her therapy dog, Clover, reading, gardening, Music Theater, traveling, and crafts of all kinds.
