I grew up in First UU Wichita and was later a member of UU churches in Minneapolis and Santa Monica before returning to Wichita in 2006, when my husband Corey Swertfager and I (re)joined the church. (We were married in the church on Fairmount in 2007.) I am a past president of First UU and have served on its board and Green Sanctuary Committee. I am particularly interested in supporting long-term financial stability for our church so that we can continue to grow in recent initiatives such as our renewed social action work, community visibility, and broadened membership diversity.
I edit a member magazine for a national nonprofit organization. I have a background in music and theatre and I write plays, fiction, and nonfiction. My plays have been produced in Minneapolis, Denver, and Wichita and I have published magazine articles and nonfiction books for children. My parents, Dick and Betty Welsbacher, were longtime members of First UU; my brother, Rick, is also a lifelong member of our church. Corey and I live with four cats and several fish.
